I was meeting with a regional developer the other day and he used a new term that I liked. Empty nesters are no longer “downsizing”, they are “rightsizing”. Tomato, toMAHto perhaps, but I like how it sounds and it could be an effective marketing strategy. Downsizing sounds like the party’s over, but rightsizing sounds like you’re making a solid fiscal decision.

I agree with the develpoer. “Rightsizing” is where people should be going. Do we need 6 bathrooms with only two people living in the home? People should evaluate their situation and make choices that will make them comfortable and not overwhelmed with a home

“Rightsizing” is a GREAT term! We moved about a year ago and are having to deal with RE-sizing…how to make what we have work in a new configuration or style – OK, that’s where an interior designer would be an asset… Trying to be green about no-longer-needed furnishings is an issue in our new location. Could someone come up with a clever furnishings exchange concept?
